A Google or Bing search has always relied on entering text on the keyboard. But now, the exponential rise of the Voice Search cannot be ignored. Digital search assistants like Apple's Siri, Google's Voice, Amazon's Alexa and Microsoft's Cortana are some of the top choices for today’s users.
Voice searches are steadily increasing in popularity. In fact, Mary Meeker's Annual Tech Trend report estimates that 50% of all searches will be voice-generated by 2020. How does the increasing trend of voice searches impact your Search Engine Optimization (SEO) results? Or does it?
Google estimates that currently about 20% of mobile search queries are done by voice. That's a BIG number considering that about 60% of ALL searches are now mobile. This tells us that the impact on SEO results is already here. Voice searches are different than keyboard search queries. Voice search phrases tend to be wordier (long-tail, as the industry calls it) and have a more conversational tone.
Try it yourself. Using your phone, search Google with a keyboard query. Then do a similar voice search. You'll find your natural behavior in phrasing these searches is different and those differences give different results. Your strategy must adjust.
