SEO Strategy for Voice Search

A Google or Bing search has always relied on entering text on the keyboard. But now, the exponential rise of the Voice Search cannot be ignored. Digital search assistants like Apple's Siri, Google's Voice, Amazon's Alexa and Microsoft's Cortana are some of the top choices for today’s users.

Voice searches are steadily increasing in popularity. In fact, Mary Meeker's Annual Tech Trend report estimates that 50% of all searches will be voice-generated by 2020. How does the increasing trend of voice searches impact your Search Engine Optimization (SEO) results? Or does it?

Google estimates that currently about 20% of mobile search queries are done by voice. That's a BIG number considering that about 60% of ALL searches are now mobile. This tells us that the impact on SEO results is already here. Voice searches are different than keyboard search queries. Voice search phrases tend to be wordier (long-tail, as the industry calls it) and have a more conversational tone.

Try it yourself. Using your phone, search Google with a keyboard query. Then do a similar voice search. You'll find your natural behavior in phrasing these searches is different and those differences give different results. Your strategy must adjust.

How do you retool your SEO strategy to embrace the impacts of the growing shift to Voice Search? Look through your analytics data for the "fingerprints" of a voice search, such as longer phrases with a more conversational tone. Target these phrases in all your SEO efforts, especially your content strategy

Integrating UX in an Agile World

The Agile methodology has become very popular in software and digital development over the past few years. And rightly so. It provides increased speeds, improved collaboration and the ability to react quickly to changing market trends. However, it was built mainly for developers, not UX professionals.

Creating websites with great user experience means focusing on the humans that will be using the site. Understanding human psychology is important for anyone who is involved in the design, content, information architecture or strategy of a website.
